January
2024
Abby Sanchez, an 8th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "Athlete of the Month Award" for January 2024.
Abby definitely is a special one. Since 6th grade she has joined RunStrong and at one point got hurt to where she couldn't run with us for the rest of the year. Thankfully, she re-joined 7th grade and this year as an 8th grader has shown a type of dedication that is rare. It's rare because she always makes the effort to come to all the runs, near and far, morning runs and optional runs, ride or no ride, she always finds a way to come, and it's all with a positive attitude that tops it. She has always been super kind, thoughtful with others, and passionate about her commitments. She is not boastful about her strengths. In front of the scenes she is dedicated and behind the scenes as well! She has maintain a 4.0 GPA, with straight A's while being ultra committed in RunStrong. That is not easy, especially at MacArthur, and I'm sure it's hard at times, but she makes it look easy. It's been a special privilege and honor to have her on the team and glad she get's this recognition from such sacrifice and heart that she puts into what she does. Way to represent MacArthur RunStrong as a whole and lead in your example.

November
2023
Ivan Sarinana, an 7th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "Athlete of the Month Award" for November 2023.
Ivan is one of a kind person. He is a kind soul and also loud in his dedication when it comes to effort he puts into RunStrong and school. He is also a football player while also balancing RunStrong. He holds over a 3.0 GPA in his class and has rarely missed any practices even when it comes to the optional Saturday and Team Bonding activities, he's there as best as he can be. He always has such a great attitude and mindset when it comes to facing the cold in the mornings, waking up, and is a leader not a follower. No matter what, he understands it's tough at times to be dedicated when you are tired from other sports and school work. But he still shows up with a smile, and is polite when greeting others. He does not shy away from his responsibilities as a student-athlete. He proves that you can be both kind, do well in school, be super dedicated in sports, and find a fun balance in it all. Now going to 2 years of RunStrong under his belt, he has remained consistent and even more motivated, which is impressive and inspiring because it's easy to loose your focus when life get's hard. Way to be inspiring and set a good example Ivan. Thank you for leading in your own unique way!
