MARCH
2017
Kaloni Cung, a 6th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "Athlete of the Month Award" for March 2017.
Kaloni has done a phenomenal job of maintaining a HEALTHY student-athlete life balance. She comes to practice, works hard on the runs, and focuses fully on her studies. What I enjoy most about Kaloni is her persona and demeanor in how she carries herself on a daily basis. Everyone on the team notices that she is always putting in the effort and contributes her part to the team overall success. She is quiet but fierce in the same time. She upholds her goals and accomplishes them. In her 5k races, she has showed diligence in reaching her potential as she goes out to make it her best. Kaloni is a perfect example of someone that shows leadership by example. No need to raise her voice to get anyone's attention. Her simple act of standing tall and remaining true to herself of getting the work in, is what makes Kaloni the perfect person to receive this great acknowledgment.
Awesome Job Kaloni!

FEBRUARY
2017
Mia Gonzalez, a 6th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "Athlete of the Month Award" for February 2017.
First off, I would like to congratulate Mía on being the February athlete of the month. Don't let her height fool you, because although she may be small, she can fill up some big shoes. Whenever there is something that needs so be done, she will do her best to help out and get the job done. When someone needs help, she will try her best to help out. During runs, if a group fall behind or gets cut off by a light and there are no coaches with them, Mía will step up and take on the role by leading the group until either the run is over, or when they catch up to a coach or when a coach appears. Both on and off the field, Mía is a great teammate, a good friend, and overall, an amazing person.

JANUARY
2017
Andrew Atmojo, a 8th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "Athlete of the Month Award" for January 2017.
As an 8th grader, Andrew Atmojo has demonstrated that he cares for his team deeply and wants to help them get better everyday. Andrew holds the special gift, in being the type of person that sets a high standard for himself, and works towards helping others stay true to themselves. Within a couple months, I’ve learned that Andrew has a big heart to do many great things, in which I know he will accomplish along the upcoming years. Andrew has accomplished several milestones within a short time frame, such as maintaining straight A’s, placing him to have over a 4.0 GPA. He’s a perfect representation of a student-athlete that is entirely focused on putting in the hard work behind closed doors so he can live to his fullest potential outdoors! When it comes to athletics, Andrew is also facing it head on as he is multi-sport champion participating in cross country, football, basketball, track & field and RunStrong. In addition, for every 5K race that we have thus far, he’s been one of the few runners to consecutively improve his race time for each one! A special quality about Andrew is that he’s a great communicator and has learned to master his words as a leader. When your around Andrew, he shares his values and hopes and you can’t help but gain some valuable wisdom from him. Hearing him speak inspires me to become a better person as well, as I’m learning something new about him every week. In every practice, Andrew has made every run his best run. He’s always in control of his actions and behavior and understands the commitment he has made to the team. He’s also become a brother figure to his teammates as he is genuinely present to help others in need. Andrew is above and beyond in his years of living, and I’m so glad to award him with this honor. Thank you Andrew for all the sacrifices you have made to be part of the team!!
Congratulations Andrew!

Dedicated and commitment is the definition of Jose Ramirez as a runner. Always attentive to every single practice and arrives on time if not earlier. Although he is a 6th grader, he keeps a strong pace and has the potential to be a great runner. Jose is always encouraging others that if they have the ability to be up front with the pack, then that’s where they should be. Not only is he a great runner in the making but in terms of his academic standpoint, he is acing all his classes! Jose is very enthusiastic and no matter how rough the run is he is always prepared.

Tiffany Castaneda, a 7th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "Athlete of the Month Award" for November 2016.

Tiffany can always bring a smile to your face and does her best never to miss a Saturday practice. I would like to present Tiffany, as the RunStrong November athlete of the month. She is a person that is very dedicated to this sport and team! Also, she is achieving great marks in her physical education course, and moving around her schedule as to have more time for RunStrong. Tiffany is a very kind and caring person, with a great imagination for making up stories. Lastly, Tiffany loves to bring her dog that likes to practice as well.

OCTOBER
2016
Yair Segura, an 8th grader at MacArthur Intermediate, has been selected as the recipient of the "RunStrong Athlete of the Month Award" for October 2016.
Yair has participated in RunStrong for two years since the launch of the running club program in October 2015. He is a three sport athlete in cross country, RunStrong and track & field. He has recently clinched the 8th grade male 5K record (20:27) within the start of the opening season. His humble character and the ability to reach his utmost potential has taken him to great new heights in his ongoing running career here at MacArthur. What I appreciate most about Yair, is that he doesn’t need praise or recognition to run his best race, because he posses the inner drive and tough mindset to break his goals constantly. He wants to be GREAT! Academically, Yair has maintained a 3.0 GPA as an Honor’s student in Science. Overall, Yair is a friendly warm welcoming athlete, which makes him a stand out individual for all to meet. Your Awesome Yair!!
